2020.04.06 Storyboard and Prototype

For this week, I drafted a script for the story:

Have you ever imagined living in a box?

It’s like you are part of it, and it’s also part of you.

No one knows where it comes from.

But you just know, it’s there.

Most of the time, it remains invisible.

It has nothing to do with your school and work.

But when it comes to personal life, the box pops up.

You know you are different.

You are attracted to certain things.

You dress differently.

You behave differently.

You are excited about what the box brings you.

However, when you look around, you realize it’s not common.

Your society told you it’s not right to have the box.

Some people are frightened by the box.

Some people told you the box is disgusting.

Maybe even your parents and friends think it’s perverted.

You feel helpless. Because it’s not even your choice.

You started to question yourself.

Am I sick? Do I really need to live with the box?

You can’t really share your feelings with your family.

It’s like your happiness is based on fighting against the entire world.

You learned by yourself that you need to hide your box.

It’s just easier to pretend you don’t have it.

Everything about the box became a secret.

As you grow up, you realize that you are living in a closet filled with secrets.

The box became the closet.

After all, I realize my box is only one of the millions of types of boxes.

In fact, everyone has their own box.

The box doesn’t change who they are, but really is part of themselves.

I’m here today, talking to you.

Not for coming out of the closet.

But inviting you to come into my world.

I want to share my happiness, my sadness, everything about my life with you.

Because I love you.

Then, I sketched out some ideas for the interactive storytelling project.

Then I created a virtual 3D world with Mozilla Hub Spoke.

I uploaded my sketches to the virtual world, and found it’s quite interesting.

Audience can move and walk around the 3D virtual space. Now I can curate the space like a virtual 3D gallery, and I can play around with the elements of the stories, including images, video, audio, and different 3D worlds.

I also tried out to make models for the sketches and add animation to the models:

And I recreated a box world with Unreal:

I am still thinking how to make the technology necessary for storytelling.

What should be included, and what should not?

Any other experimental ways for storytelling using these platforms?

I am still testing things out.
